About : faq
[This was written in 1999, and is severely out of date. It's included for posterity and
nothing more.]
What does 'Simunye' mean?
Simunye is Zulu/Xosha that means 'we are one'.
Are you South African?
No. A one time friend is from
Pteroia, South Africa. He nicknamed me this, for it's meaning. I am neither Spanish,
Italian, or Jewish (other common nationals that i get mistaken for). My bloodline is
primarily Northern European (German, Scottish, English, French), and there is a hint of
African blood as well, but very minute. I'm just your typical heinze 57 common variety
mix.
Are you really 6'?
Yes. My drivers license says so. I've been measured from anywhere from 5'10 to 6',
without shoes. Guess it depends on what kind of day it is. Generally I tower over 80% of
the population, if that gives you any indication.
How many piercings do you really have?
I got my nose pierced in spring of 1993, my belly button pierced in January of 1996, my
left nipple in July of 1996, the right nipple done in February of 1997, my tongue pierced
in July of 1997 and my bellybutton pierced again in December of 1998. I've also had my
cartilage pierced five times over the years and I've pierced my ears three times myself.
Out of all these punctures, the only thing I have kept is my nipple rings. The nose is
still open and I can wear a hoop, I took both belly rings out due to migration and my
tongue I took out for fear of dental problems. I plan on getting more done in the future.
I like pain. :)
Do you have pictures?
Yes.
This is of my left breast, taken by a digital camera at BayCon in May of 1997. I may get
around to putting up my other pictures that were taken around the same time. I also have a
quick cam which I've been dinking around with, so I'm sure I'm going to be self-indulgent
and put up some sort of images gallery at one point.
You can view a more recent picture here.
um, didn't that hurt?
No, i have a pretty high tolerance for pain. i used to piece my own ears, and when i was
younger, i used to sew my fingers together with needle/thread. but i was like 7 or 8 at
the time.
i don't find piercings to be self-mutilations, but more aesthetically pleasing (as well as
sexually). here is a picture of my tongue piercing
taken august of 1997.
I heard that you were on Usenet. Is this true?
This picture was taken at def con 4 in
the summer of 1997. It is a picture of me spanking se7en, who likes to call himself a
hacker. we had just broken up, and i sold smacks on his ass for $.50 cents a pop. i made
$20 bucks that night.
My friend Will put the picture on usenet. Neither se7en nor I were named, but I'm assuming
some people knew where we were. the above picture of my nipple has been made into icons,
wallpaper and thrown around usenet as well.
How many times have you seen Sarah
McLachlan play in concert?
7 times. Twice alone (November 30, 1997 in Oakland, and in March of 1998 in Sacramento,
California) and four times at lilith fair
this past summer (1998) and at the Bridge School Benefit in October of 1998. I plan
on catching her future shows for Lilith this summer.
You've been to four liliths?
Yes. I went to the second show in George, Washington, two in san francisco, and I drove up
to see the last one in Vancouver in August. The amazing part isn't that I *went* to four
liliths (I know of some fumblers who have been to many more shows than I). The amazing
part is that my roommates and I drove from SF to Seattle and SF to Vancouver to see the
shows. Within the space of a few days (driving over 2000 miles round trip each time
).
What are fumblers?
Fumblers is a email
discussion list based on the music of Sarah. I've been subbed to the list on and off since
August of 1997, and have met some amazing people through the list. The list is full of
noise, and there is about 700 people who are subbed to the list at any given time. If you
are interested in getting on the list, be forewarned that it does generate a lot of
traffic.
What do you do for a living?
Please check out my resume.
On-line, you seem to snarfle a bit. What the hell is a snarfle?
heh.
Snarfles is a made up word my friend Spydy in Texas came up with back in 1995. It
signified "hugs and kisses". He would "snarfle" me on his way into the channel and I in
turn would snarfle other people. It stuck and became my trademark. Anyone who wished to
recognized me, would know me by this.
What's Jupiter?
Jupiter is my 1998 black Saturn.
What the hell is a UFie?
Ufie is a nickname of the people that read the comic strip UserFriendly. If you have ever worked in tech support,
an ISP or an all around geek, this strip is for you.
I frequent the channel on Undernet called #Userfriendly. I've met some way cool people
there :) Go check it out, it's a blast :)
You are a writer?
You could say that. I've been written about and
have been published in a tech magazine on various things. I write a lot of entries for my
journal, which is how you got here in the first place. I also contribute to f.u.c.k.. I also have a story at a litslam web site.
read it and tell me what you
think.
Calling one's self a writer is a misnomer: too many people call themselves that, and a lot
of people can't write for shit. I just like to write, and if people like what i have to
say, than that is fine by me.
Are you single?
As of April 18, 1999, yes I am single.
I am currently NOT looking for someone. so please don't ask :)
Your brother is 7'+ tall?
Yes. Jeff currently stands at 7'4". He will be turning 20 in April of 1999, and is
currently doing his second year work at a community college in Kalamazoo, MI. He was named
all-state in basketball his senior year of basketball and is being recruited for several
large schools in the US.
Why the FAQ?
Back in the olden days (1995), whenever I met someone on-line, I would get the same damn
questions. It seemed more people were interested in all this crap then knowing about 'me'.
Some of the questions seemed to be a bit ridiculous, like someone msg'ing me on irc and
asking me what i was wearing: as if it mattered. or finding my webpage and telling me that
i should find god or what have you.
a faq in my opinion, shouldn't be about a person per se, it should reflect a community of
sorts. example of a faq about a news group you like to read, or a channel you like to hang
out on irc. it seems to be static when speaking about a person.
however, being the hypocrite i am, i just felt that a few generalized questions that i
receive a lot should be answered. i don't answer my email (generally) and am famous for
replying to letters over a year old. If you feel the need to contact me, please visit my
guestbook and sign it. I do read the entries. Besides, I have found that when people email
me, they really don't give two flicks if I respond back. :)
